Instructions to Make This Chicken
Follow my easy steps to get the best katsu chicken recipe with its full flavors:
Step 1
Cut all the chicken breasts into half-thick filets and sprinkle all the pieces with pepper and salt then set them aside so that the salt in it can dry easily and prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2
Take a large and wide bowl and mix the following ingredients in it:
- Eggs
- Flour
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic Powder
To get a consistency that will be slightly thinner than that of the batter you make for pancake and if you need you can add water often to get the results.
Step 3
Now take a tray add breadcrumbs in it and set it beside the wet batter that you prepared according to step 2.
Step 4
Dip the chicken breast pieces in the mixture of egg but make sure that the excess drips off so the breadcrumbs don’t wet and then coat immediately with panko breadcrumbs and ensure that there are no dry spots on the chicken pieces.
Step 5
After coating all the pieces with the breadcrumbs place them into the air fryer basket remember to spray on top with avocado or canola oil then set the temperature of the air fryer to 350 F degrees and let them cook for about 10 minutes or till they turn golden brown.
After 10 minutes flip each piece and again spray the oil on the bottom side then again cook for 6 minutes more or till you feel that each piece is ready by ensuring the internal temperature reaches 165 F degrees and your air fried chicken katsu is ready to enjoy.
Step 6
I like to serve with Katsu Sauce, Rice, and Pickled Ginger but you can enjoy this chicken with your favorite side or dish and enjoy.
Tips for Air Fryer Chicken Katsu
Dry brining is the key trick to getting juicy chicken in a quick time, when you season the chicken with pepper and salt make sure to leave the chicken for 15 minutes it will allow the chicken to absorb the salt and as a result, you’ll get juicy meat with crispy skin of the chicken.
Wet batter preparation is also important in this recipe because you can not skip dipping the chicken in the wet batter as the breadcrumbs will stick with the chicken when they are wet and these breadcrumbs will provide a crunchy texture to the chicken. Keep in mind that if you are preparing more than 4 chicken pieces then adjust the measurements of the ingredients accordingly.
