Directions To Make Chicken Teriyaki

Please use chicken thighs for this. Breasts do work well while chicken thighs stay extra juicy and are perfect for Teriyaki.

Use a large skillet to avoid over-crowding and cook your chicken in its juice when cooking your chicken, make sure the oil in the pan is hot before adding the meat to get a nice golden color of the chicken. The skillet I tend to use is at least 12-inches or over.

In this recipe, you can also garnish your chicken with sliced green onion and sesame seeds and enjoy this amazing Teriyaki Chicken Bowl in the comfort of your own house.

What to Serve With Chicken Teriyaki

You have multiple choices to serve Chicken Teriyaki with this incredible dish. Streamed broccoli and rice is the best side in my opinion or you can try it with fried rice. Spray all of the extra sauce over everything in your bowl for an amazing and delightful flavor. You can also pair it with:

  • Crunchy Cabbage Salad
  • Sesame Roasted Green Beans
  • Sesame Cucumber Salad

Sake And Mirin in Chicken Teriyaki

You have sake and mirin which are both Japanese alcoholic beverages but mirin is mostly utilized in cooking and has a sweeter taste than sake. Alternatively, you can also use sake with a pinch of sugar if you do not find mirin or if it is not available near you.

You can also skip them out altogether but they do include a hint of acidity to balance out the sweetness of sugar, in addition to a nice fine flavor to the sauce.

Some Helpful Tips

  • Season sauce as desired. If you like light salt flavor you could replace some soy sauce with water, if you want it salty just add a pinch of salt.
  • The sesame oil can be skipped, I’ve also made this without and it’s still tasty. Or you can add more if you love that flavor.
  • Work carefully to cut the chicken into equal-sized pieces so they cook evenly from all sides.
  • Be careful while cooking chicken and do not overcook the chicken or it will start to dry out.

Interesting Facts About Chicken Teriyaki

In Japan, teriyaki is a mix of soy sauce, sake, and the rice wine mirin, which provides a delicate sweetness. The teriyaki found throughout Seattle, of which this is a modified version, is a bit more flashy.

It cooks sweetened with pineapple juice and white sugar. They thicken with cornstarch. Garlic and ginger go into the blend because of the Korean origin of many chefs. It is not at all regular, but it is simple to prepare and a delight to eat.
